High poly to low poly model with normal map

      Good morning!
      In this tutorial i want teach you how make a low poly model with normal map from high poly model.
      This technique is much used for make 3d model for games, in that we obtain a model with few vertices but with many details.

      So, we start! :thumbsup:

      Program I use in this tutorial:
      - Maya 2016
      - xNormal

      Program needed for this tutorial:
      - xNormal


      1. The first thing to do is, obviously, the high poly model.
      In my case i model a simple cylinder with some extrusions.




      2. Once we have the high poly model, we create a low poly model. And we put it in the center of the high poly model.
      The low poly model must have UVs.




      3. Now we export the two model (High e low poly) in two different .fbx files.



      4. Open xNormal and now we have to import the two model.
      First we import the high poly model. Click on "High definition meshes" and drag the high poly file into the program.
      Next we import the low poly model. Click on "Low definition meshes" and drag the low poly file.




      5. The next phase consists to calculate the ray distance.
      Click on "Tool" and after on "Ray distance calculator"



      5.1 Did this we will have this window.


      Click on "Go!"



      Wait about 10 seconds and click "Stop!"
      Finally click on "Copy results"




      6. Now we just export the texture
      Go to "Baking Options", set your preferred settings, select Normal Map and, if want, Ambient Occlusion or more maps and click on "Generate Maps"
